Banksy’s new work captures the mood of a nation under lock down by paying tribute to brave NHS workers. The artwork entitled “Game Changer” has appeared in a corridor at Southampton General Hospital.
The artwork depicts a boy playing with a superhero nurse toy, whilst figures of other superheroes lie in a waste paper basket. The nurse wears a cape, face mask, white apron and has her arm raised as if she is flying.
Banksy Game Changer
Banksy has even left a note for NHS workers along with the piece it read: “Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it is only black and white.”
The artwork will eventually be put on public display and later auctioned off to raise money for the NHS.
Paula Head, chief executive of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said the artwork would “help boost the morale of hospital staff.”
“Here at Southampton, our hospital family has been directly impacted with the tragic loss of much loved and respected members of staff and friends,” she said.
“The fact that Banksy has chosen us to recognise the outstanding contribution everyone in and with the NHS is making, in unprecedented times, is a huge honour.
